THE EMERGENCY BEACON PROGRAM
The fundamental component of this program consists of a sixty watt light bulb that is installed in either a porch light or interior light that is visible from the street. This bulb operates as a standard bulb under normal circumstances, however, when the resident activates the light switch two times in rapid succession, the light bulb enters a "flash" mode and remains as such until the homeowner shuts the light off. The bulb then functions as a standard light again. The flashing light alerts neighbors who can then contact the Wood Dale Police Department to investigate the source. The "Emergency Beacon Bulb" is an excellent idea for most residences, especially those with seniors, children or people who live alone.
Residents who purchase "Emergency Beacon Bulbs" should advise neighbors of the system and ask them to dial "9-1-1" in the event they see the bulb activated. Parents who have young children should take the time to instruct them on how to activate the system and caution them on utilizing the "Emergency Beacon Bulb" system only in emergencies.
These bulbs are being sold below cost to Wood Dale resident for $3.00 each and are available at the Wood Dale Police Department. If you have any questions regarding this program, please contact Officer Frank Chiero at 630/766-2060.
