CURBSIDE BRUSH PROGRAM - 2005
The curbside brush pick up program will begin April 4, 2005
and continue through the last week in November. In the
interest of employee safety and protection of equipment, the
following guidelines must be followed during the 2005
Curbside Brush Collection Program:
Only the
trimmings from trees, bushes and shrubs will be picked up
under this program.
Any brush or
trees which are cut or trimmed by private contractors are to
be removed by the contractors.
Whole trees,
stumps, thorn bushes, grass clippings, flowers, weeds,
garden plants, lumber and anything in bags or containers will not be picked up.
All branches 2”
to 8” in diameter must be neatly stacked, cut ends toward
street. Branches must not exceed 8’ in length.
- Branches less
than 2” in diameter must be tied in bundles with light
string. The brush pile should not be larger than 10’ wide,
4’ high and 8’ long. Bundles should not be more than 12” in
diameter.
- All
branches/logs 8”or larger in diameter will not be picked up.
- No foreign
matter should be placed in the brush pile. It can cause
personal injury to workers and damage to the brush chipper. If any foreign matter is present, the brush pile will not be
picked up.
- Large roots and
dirt must be removed from all bushes since they can clog or
damage the brush chipper.
- Special pick up
services will be offered following major storms on an “as
needed” basis.
- Please
contact Browning Ferris Industries (BFI) at 708-345-7050 for
instructions for a special pick up regarding any material
that does not meet the above guidelines.
- Mulch is again
available as a by-product of the brush pick up program. If
you would like to receive a truck load of mulch, please call
the Department of City Services at 630-350-3530. A stock
pile is also available at the corner of Station and Potter
Streets for those wanting to pick mulch up themselves.

Mark your calendars! Grass and Leaf pick up begins the Last Week in March. Remember the following:
-
Yard waste consists of grass clippings, twigs, leaves,
plant material, etc.
- Yard waste may be placed in water proof 33 gallon
containers with handles and tight fitting covers bearing
a decal indicating that the container holds yard waste. Yard waste may also be placed in special yard waste
paper bags available from local vendors.
-
Yard waste bags and cans must be placed at the front
curb for pick up.
-
Please do not mix yard waste and household waste
in the same bag or container.
-
Please do not rake leaves on to parkways or
into gutters. Raking leaves into the
street interferes with drainage inlets and can cause
street flooding. Leaves will only be picked up in
approved containers (see item 2).
Collection of yard waste is the same day as garbage pick
up. A separate truck is used for the program, so please
place yard waste at the curb by 6:30 a.m.
